LITERACY PROGRAMS

Through working with teachers, parent educators, early childhood educators, librarians, social service providers, and other literacy professionals, the Minnesota Humanities Center conducts programs and disseminates resources that advance reading and literacy efforts in homes, schools, libraries, child care centers, and communities.

The Humanities Center’s current work in literacy focuses on:

• A Reading with Dad Initiative, which strives to increase fathers' involvement in the educational lives of their children
• Bilingual and heritage language programs, which preserve heritage languages while improving early literacy
• Authors in Communities, which brings Minnesota authors to schools and libraries in Greater Minnesota

Components of the Reading with Dad Initiative include:

• The Reading with Dad Book List
• Fathers Reading Everyday (FRED) programs throughout the state
• Workshops such as Dads and Kids Book Clubs
